Witness Service
Secret validity service for commercial contracts and receipt certificates. Not a financial registry.
Not a financial registry
The Witness Service is not a securities register, transfer agent, escrow agent, custodian, or payment system. It does not record legal title to any asset, does not verify identity, and makes no claim about who owns anything.
It only records secret-replacement events for Harmoniis commercial contracts and certificates to prevent double-spend of a secret. It may only be used with commercial goods and services contracts and certificates permitted under Harmoniis policies.
Use with securities, investments, fundraising instruments, derivatives, or payment instruments is prohibited.
Purpose
The witness records which secret is currently valid for a given contract. When a secret is replaced, the previous one is immediately invalidated — the same contract cannot be acted on twice. That is its sole function: preventing double-spend.
The witness does not know who holds the secret, how many parties may know it, or why it was replaced. It makes no claim about legal title or identity. It only attests one thing: the presented secret is currently valid, or it is not.
Fundamentals
At any moment, exactly one secret is valid for a given contract. Replacing it with a new secret immediately invalidates the previous one — there is no gap, no overlap, and no way to act on the old secret once it has been replaced. Secret replacement can happen for any reason: routine key rotation, handing the secret to another party, or anything else. The witness does not ask why and does not record who. It only records that the old secret is no longer valid.

What the witness Does Not Know
The witness does not know what is inside any contract — not the work description, the price, or who the parties are. It holds no position on any of that. It is a validity ledger, not a lawyer and not a bank.
Permitted scope
- Commercial goods and services contracts (CTR_) permitted under Harmoniis policies
- Certificates (CRT_) issued for a specific delivered good or service
All other use — including for securities, investment instruments, fundraising, derivatives, or payment instruments — is prohibited. See the Prohibited Use Policy.
Secret security warning
If a Witness secret is stolen or leaked, whoever has it can replace it with a new one — and once replaced, the previous secret is gone for good. The witness has no way to undo a replacement: it only ever knows the current valid secret. Treat your Witness secret like cash: do not share it, do not store it in plaintext, and do not transmit it over insecure channels.
